Midlife Reset: How I Found Peace in Sedona (and the Simple Tools I Use at Home)

If you have been running on empty, saying yes when you mean no, or feeling overstimulated by even the smallest things, you don’t need a full life overhaul. You need a reset.
Sam and I took a trip to Sedona recently, and it felt like stepping into another world. The red rocks glowed at sunset, the air had a softness to it, and the quiet wasn’t just silence. It was presence. People talk about Sedona being a place for healing, and I’ll admit, I was skeptical before I went. But once I was there, I understood. My nervous system downshifted in a way I hadn’t felt in years. I felt more at peace than almost anywhere else I have ever been.
Here’s the thing though: you can’t move to Sedona every time life gets overwhelming. I came home thinking, how do I recreate that calm in my real life? Because waiting for the next trip wasn’t going to cut it.
My Everyday Resets
The first shift I made was small but powerful: Sundays without my phone. My parents and kids each have their own ringtones, so I knew they could still reach me if needed. But I stopped carrying it everywhere, checking emails “just in case,” or falling into the scroll.
At first, it was awkward. I would reach for it out of habit and feel like something was missing. But eventually, I realized what I had been missing all along: quiet. Conversations that weren’t interrupted. Meals where I tasted my food. A brain that wasn’t constantly half in someone else’s text thread. That small reset gave me back a sense of space.
Another tool that has been huge for me is Vibrant Blue Oils’ Parasympathetic Blend. One drop behind my ears and my whole body responds. My shoulders drop. I take a real breath, not the shallow one I had been living on. It is like my nervous system gets the signal: “you’re safe.” I use it when anxiety spikes, when my mind will not stop racing, or when I feel the urge to push past my limits. The scent has become my shortcut back to calm, and honestly it has been a game changer. (I’ll link it for you below.)
Why Resets Matter in Midlife
In my 20s, I could power through stress. Late nights, overcommitting, saying yes when I wanted to say no. I bounced back faster then. But now, stress does not just disappear. It lingers. In my body. In my sleep. In the way I show up with the people I love.
That is why resets matter. They interrupt the spiral before it becomes burnout. They give us a chance to catch ourselves before we are depleted.
For me, resets look like:
Pausing before I respond. Not rushing into yes. Giving myself the gift of silence before deciding.
Asking, “Is this mine to carry?” Letting go of other people’s stress, guilt, or expectations.
Using clear, calm language. “That doesn’t work for me” is a complete sentence.
Letting it land. No over-explaining. No negotiating my peace.
None of these take hours. But they all bring me back to myself.
Recreating Sedona at Home
No, I cannot see red rocks out my window every morning. But I can build pieces of Sedona into my days. A phone-free Sunday. One drop of oil that tells my nervous system it is safe. A boundary that gives me margin to breathe.
These moments may look ordinary, but they stack up. They create a rhythm that feels lighter, steadier, and more like me.
Side note: If you would like support weaving resets into your own week, I created a 7-Day Reset with short daily videos and journaling prompts. It is simple, practical, and filled with the same tools I use myself when life feels too loud. It is there if you want it, but your reset can start today with one small choice.
Journal prompt for you:What is one small boundary or ritual I could put in place this week to bring more peace into my day?
Resets do not have to wait for Sedona. You can create them right where you are.
Your Turn When your days feel overstimulating or stretched too thin, what reset helps you find your center again? Is it a walk outside, a quiet cup of tea, or something else entirely?
Share in the comments. Your story might give someone else permission to create their own reset.
